This tudor style house in Surrey was extended and remodelled to open it up internally. The extension was designed by the Architect to have large glazed areas and bifold doors opening the house up to the garden area with two gables. To blend the structure in steel frames were designed to support the loads, maintain stability and provide minimal structural impact on the elevation. The client also wanted to investigate the feasibility of extending downwards by constructing a basement. We arranged for ‘window sampling’ of the ground down to a depth of about 4m which produced good results and the basement went ahead.
